The Rural Resources Farm & Food Education Center (501C3) has a 25-year history connecting food, families and agriculture in Greene County, TN, and across the region. We are now in search of an Executive Director who can lead the organization’s staff, volunteers and supporters towards organizational sustainability while implementing the vision of a food secure and sustainable Greene County.

 

Organization:

Rural Resources is located on a 15-acre farm that includes a new 3,900 square foot Farm and Food education facility with certified kitchen; barns, event pavilion, greenhouse, hoop house, farm equipment etc. The 2,500 square foot garden is managed for crop production plus we raise livestock for education and small-scale meat production. The property has forest and a creek and is preserved by a conservation easement.  There are an average of 5 full-time staff/AmeriCorps that carry out the programs and mission, supported by volunteers, volunteer committees, and a 9-member Board of Directors. The budget is approximately $300,000 annually, with room to grow! We are an equal opportunity organization and welcome all.

 

Position Summary:

The Executive Director will serve as the chief administrator of the team of talented staff and volunteers that make up Rural Resources' people power for its excellent educational programs. They will provide leadership by creating a functioning work environment that allows the staff to excel in their work at the Farm & Food Center and in the wider Greene County and northeast TN region. The Executive Director is the top executive ensuring all is coordinated across a complicated organization in order to meet its budget and mission.

 

Base salary is $32,000, with offer contingent on experience.

Essential Functions: Leadership, Supervision, External Relations, Financial Health

  • Leadership and supervisory functioning of the staff and AmeriCorps.

  • Volunteer recruitment and facilitation.

  • Oversees the functioning and orderliness of the building facility, the grounds, and the Farm.

  • Maintains relationships with the organization’s main partners, health care, schools, agricultural groups, funders, elected officials by attending community meetings and building relationships.

  • Oversees that the budget is met, considering:

    • Earned revenue from Event rentals

    • Annual Giving campaigns and growing the donor base

    • Fundraising signature Events

    • Committees that can support fundraising

    • Grants

  • Oversees preparing and managing Grants, including research, partnerships, writing, and reporting.

  • Maintains close communication with the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

  • Astute supervisory and people team skills.

  • The ability to communicate the value that the organization has for the community.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail, problem solving skills.

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, Quick Books, social media, Zoom, and ready to evaluate and adopt related workplace technology.

  • An affinity for Greene County, the community that Rural Resources serves and is supported by.

  • A passion for children and nature.

  • Rural Resources Farm & Food Education Center is a working farm, and as such, the executive director must be able to support staff as required to ensure the effective running of the farm.

  • Five years experience in non-profit, or administration or business experience.

  • Managerial leadership experience.

  • Comfortable talking with donors and the wider community.

  • Writing and effective communication.

  • Bachelor's degree.
